2013 Adult Summer Reading Program
GROUNDBREAKING READS

Tuesday
evening, May 21, 2013
7
p.m. to 8 p.m.
Local
photographers Gwendolyn Day and Greg Feight will take you on a photographic
historical journey of US 12. This
historic highway originates in Detroit and extends to Chicago. Between these two large cities is the story of
Michigan. Along this road, you will find
the diversity of Michigan: large industrial cities, small agricultural towns, farm
fields, manufacturing sites, large churches, small churches, and roadside
produce stands. One room country
schools, roadside parks, and historic hotels blend the past with the present. You will see many different fields showing
Michigan’s agriculture, fishing holes, tourist lakes, fancy restaurants, and
truck stops. Historic cemeteries dot the roadsides --the final resting place of
our pioneer forefathers.
The exhibit will
also be open for viewing on Friday, May 24th, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Wednesday,
May 29th, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, June 1st, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Michael H. Hodges covers art and architecture for the Detroit
News, where he has worked since the early 1990s. He also writes and
photographs the newspaper's architecture blog. A native of the Detroit area,
Hodges grew up on a dairy farm thirty miles north of the city. He confesses to
being crazy about architecture, an obsession he blames on the six years he
spent as a student at Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, one of North
America's great, idyllic campuses.
