A SOLDIER'S STORY
Howard E. Rollins Jr., Adolph Caesar, Art Evans,
Denzel Washington, Larry Riley, David Alan Grier, Patti LaBelle
Columbia Pictures; Directed by Norman Jewison
Rated PG; 102 minutes; 1984
An intense, exhilarating suspenseful movie that is, on the surface, an investigation into a murder, but underneath that, it is an investigation into the heart-wrenching and familiar question of how a black man lives in a white society. A SOLDIER'S STORY was scripted by Charles Fuller from his Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play and stars some of the original Broadway cast.

HACHI: A DOG'S TALE
Richard Gere, Joan Allen
Sony Pictures Entertainment;
Directed by Lasse Hallström
Rated G; 93 minutes; 2009
This heartwarming true story is an American adaptation of a Japanese tale about a loyal dog named Hachiko. This very special friend would accompany his master to the train station every day and return each afternoon to greet him after work. Sadly, his master departs one day, passes away and never returns to the station. Hachiko faithfully returns every day to the station, and his visits touch the lives of many who work near and commute through the town square. He teaches the local people love, compassion and above all unyielding loyalty.

Dr. Mike & The Sea Monkeys are a folk and acoustic
blues duo featuring Mike Ball and Scott Clauser.
Most of the group’s music is original, based on the
nationally-syndicated column What I've Learned So Far... and the
book What I've Learned So Far... Part 1: Bikes, Docks &
Slush Nuggets by Erma Bombeck award-winning humorist Mike Ball.
Mike Ball, who has been performing since the 1960s, is
an award-winning author of one book with three more scheduled to be released in
2012. Ball sings lead and plays guitar, banjo, ukulele, resonator and djembe.
Scott Clauser has been a multi-instrumentalist for
nearly forty years, including stints with the folk-rock band, The Brakemen and
the southern rock band, The Willies.
Sponsored by Cambrian Assisted Living, Herrick Manor,
Tecumseh District Library and Tecumseh Place.
