Photographer and 2013 Michigan Notable Books author Michael H. Hodges, writer of Michigan's Historic Railroad Stations, will reacquaint you with the building type that once served as the nation's principal crossroads, and the range of architectural styles it employed both to tame and exalt rail transportation.  Discover depots ranging from functioning Amtrak stops (Jackson) to converted office buildings (Battle Creek) and spectacular abandoned wrecks (Saginaw and Detroit) to highlight the beauty of these iconic structures.  Explore the condition of the depot and its use today. Learn about the history of local railroad stations.

Michael H. Hodges covers art and architecture for the Detroit News, where he has worked since the early 1990s.   He also writes and photographs the newspaper's architecture blog.  A native of the Detroit area, Hodges grew up on a dairy farm thirty miles north of the city.  He confesses to being crazy about architecture, an obsession he blames on the six years he spent as a student at Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, one of North America's great, idyllic campuses.

The Saline Fiddlers have set the standard for extracurricular music programs in the U.S.  The group began in 1994 with a simple idea: the introduction of an alternative style of music education to public school students. This has grown into a model of instruction and motivation that is being emulated across the nation.

Since their inception, the Fiddlers have performed more than 1,000 times, including performances at the White House and in several foreign countries.

The Saline Fiddlers are a nonprofit music education and performance organization supported by volunteers, donations, recording sales and performance fees.
